Carlisle – A Guide to UK Jump Racecourses

Carlisle Racecourses

Carlisle Racecourse is a stiff, galloping right-handed track with some undulations. It is a pear shaped track and this jump circuit is around a mile and five furlongs in circumference. It has a very steep incline from the final bend to the winning post which is around half a mile in length.

The course runs both flat and Jump meetings from February to November, hence it is a dual purpose course and they usually have around three evening meetings per season.

There is just the one pattern race during the National Hunt calendar, that being an intermediate chase race known as the “Colin Parker memorial” which is run just over two and a half miles and takes place in either at the end of October or in the first week of November. It has been assigned as listed class in status.

The course represents a very stiff test for any horse, will various inclines on route to the winning post, so fitness and stamina are key components required to win here, as well, of course, a decent amount of ability.

You will often find that during the winter months the ground tends to ride very testing as the components of the surface does hold onto moisture for a longer period of time than would normally be the case at other tracks if receiving the same amount of precipitation.

The fences are slightly higher than usual but are not that stiff, when fatal errors do occur it’s usually a sign of tiredness being a stamina sapping track. On the hurdle course, there are six obstacles on the circuit whilst there are nine fences on the chase course.

Further below are some trainer angles for your consideration at the venue.

Please note: Profit and Loss figures (P/L) is based on level stakes betting of one Euro per bet to SP.

Trainer: Mrs. S Smith

Course: Carlisle

Race Type: Handicap Chase (Not Novice in Status)

Bets: 140 Wins: 31 Strike Rate: 21.28% P/L+66.58

Additional note; Profits can be increased further or should I say losses reduced if focusing on all the yards runners that are contesting class races listed from three to five, this will eliminate quite a few losing bets in the process. The yards runners tend to be effective around here from any distance of two miles and up to including races of three miles and two and a half furlongs.

Trainer: N G Richards.

Course: Carlisle

Race Type: Handicap Hurdle (Not Novice in status)

Bets: 45  Wins: 14 Strike Rate: 31.11% P/L+61.00

Additional note; A decent return to level stakes coming about from a decent win strike rate. To improve on both the overall return and win strike rate then I would ignore the stables juvenile runners (aged four) and also horses approaching the veteran age in National Hunt racing terms. So to be more specific horses aged between five and eight from the stable should be considered in these type of races.
