th seed and world number 20? A glance back to the history books tells us the Frenchman made the semis in 2007 which, although not yesterday, tells us he is capable.

The Outsider

That leaves Canada’s Vasek Pospisil – world number 56, previous best of round 2 at SW19, and winner of exactly 0 ATP titles. An unlikely candidate? You betcha. But completely out of the realms of possibility….maybe not. A favourable draw which has pit him against a highest seed of Viktor Troiki, at 22, with the fallible Nadal primed as the big gun, perhaps wasn’t the most daunting of tasks. And, look closer, and you will see the 2014 Wimbledon men’s doubles title on his CV. Missed that? The best tennis tipsters didn’t, and that is what makes them pros. The Ladies’ Semi-Finals

Tipsters will often tell you that the ladies’ game is often much much harder to call, with most of the top 100 capable of beating each other on any given day, with a couple of notable exceptions. Certainly the presence of world No. 1, twenty-time slam winner and three-time Wimbledon champ Serena Williams, as well as world number 4 and 2004 All-England club champ Maria Sharapova wouldn’t have surprised even the most cautious of tennis tipsters. 2012 beaten finalist Agnieszka Radwanska wouldn’t have perplexed the picksters either, and her presence in this year’s semi-finals matches her achievements of 2013. Her opponent, however, is less well-known.

The surprise

21 year-old Garbine Muguruza (world ranking 20) made fellow players and the general public sit up and take notice with her performances at the 2014 French Open. She defeated world number one Serena Williams but was beaten by eventual champion Maria Sharapova at the quarter-final stage – an achievement she matched in 2015. Her best performance at the All-England club, however, was the 2nd round last year, although this is only her third appearance in the main draw at SW19. Could she further surprise the more established stars and go all the way? See what the top tennis tipsters have to say about this relative unknown yet undoubted rising star.
