The rivalry between CSKA and Zalgiris date back to the Soviet times when these two teams were competing for gold in the USSR championship. It used to be called gold rush back then. Now the teams meet every year in the Euroleague competition, but their strength has been different for long.
CSKA are constant candidates to grab the Euroleague crown. They make into the Final Four every season, and they are the current title defenders. The best team in Europe changed its face after the last season when former team leaders De Colo, Rodriguez, and Higgins left. Strelnieks, Voigtmann, Koufos, James, and Hilliard came to fill the former leaders' shoes, but it took time for CSKA to get up a bit and get going. Now the Muscovites are looking much sharper offensively they they were two months ago, James finding his scoring rhythm and Hilliard and Voigtmann feeling more comfortable in the team. CSKA's latest games were rich in points, which is very typical to this team a new year approaching when CSKA traditionally does very well. After an unexpected slip in the VTB at Unics 86-94, CSKA will be motivated to restore the pride in front of the Moscow audience.
Zalgiris have been among the worst teams in the Euroleague this year, but I am sure they will improve, particularly on offence. While at home, CSKA prefer offence to defence, and Zalgiris will probably not be able to handle the stars of Moscow. On the other hand, Zalgiris are not as bad offensively as they have been looking recently, so now taking overs in their games seems very reasonable.
Zalgiris' bad Euroleague form lately and missing shooting guard Grigonis, just like missing CSKA scoring ace Clyburn made the bookmakers offer a very low total points line for a meeting between these two teams. Last time Under 153.5 between these two sides was registered nearly four years ago in Kaunas when CSKA won 94-59. Now CSKA will play with fire after the loss in Kazan and historical rivals Zalgiris visiting the capital. Zalgiris will visit the East with no pressure to win, which is good as they often do much better as underdogs. in such games, their shoting percentage increases. Zalgiris are not very bad with shooting, they just need to relax and get some confidence. Rivers will play an important role too with Grigonis missing.
I am very confident overs will bring us some cash.
