Liverpool linked with Lewandowski

Liverpool are still in the hunt for Robert Lewandowski with the club hopeful of achieving a major coup thanks to the Pole’s boyhood love for Liverpool and his relationship with boss Jurgen Klopp.

The buzz around Lewandowski’s future has grown after he declined to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich – Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid have all been linked with the 27-year-old hotshot.

Blackburn nearly signed him in 2010 – only for an Icelandic volcanic ash cloud to disrupt his travel plans – but there’s a chance Lewandowski may finally end up in Lancashire this year. But will it be for Klopp’s Red’s or Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues? And what about Los Meringues from Madrid?

Lewandowski has played for four clubs – Znicz Pruszków, KKS Lech Poznań, Borussia Dortmund under Klopp and for Pep at Bayern Munich – so this summer’s big transfer question is: who will be club number five for Lewy?

LEWANDOWSKI’s FANTASTIC FIVE

Lewandowski will forever be associated with the number five following his astonishing five goals against Wolfsburg last season when he came off the bench with Bayern 1-0 down at the break.

The nine minute blitz earned Lewy the record for the fastest five ever scored in European history. It was also the fastest ever hat-trick in the Bundesliga, fastest ever four goal haul and most goals scored by a substitute, earning Lewandowski a place in history and four Guinness Record awards.

Lewandowski has been named Polish player of the year five times in a row and picked up the Polish Sports Personality of the Year award in 2015.

He’s also been in the Bundesliga’s top five goal scorers since 2011-12 and last season Lewy became the first player in 39 years to reach the magic 30 goal mark in the Bundesliga – becoming the first foreign-born player to ever achieve the feat.

KLOPP KNOW’s LEWY – SO DOES PEP!

Klopp knows all about Lewy’s prowess and his relationship with the Pole, built at Dortmund could be enough to land his signature. However, Guardiola knows all about him too and Man City can offer Champions League football. Zinedine Zidane can offer all that as well, with the added carrot of Real Madrid being the world’s biggest club.

The son of Polish judo champion, Lewandowski and his wife Anna – who won a bronze medal at the Karate World Cup – are known as his country’s Beckhams but it’s his on pitch efforts that have made him such a prize for Europe’s top clubs.

The fight for his signature will only be settled once Euro2016 has ended.

KLOPP TARGETS GOETZE

Klopp has also been linked with Lewy’s Bayern team mate and his former Dortmund star Mario Götze as he looks to sharpen his attacking options.

Liverpool have Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings, Christian Benteke and, don’t forget, Mario Balotelli. The saga of the enigmatic Italian continues, with the Reds hoping to off load him to Besiktas after Balotelli failed to impress while on loan to Milan last year.

LIVERPOOL TRANSFERS – THE INS AND OUTS

Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market, Klopp has already signed Cameroonian defender Joël Matip, Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic and German goalkeeper Loris Karius and is targeting more players to bolster his squad.

The Reds are lining up a £10 million move for Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski but the Italian’s are looking for £12 million for the 22-year-old Pole.

Among players heading the other way is Martin Skrtel – reportedly Turkey bound for £5.5 million to Fenerbache – while fellow centre back Kolo Toure is also leaving Anfield after being released from his contract.
