Jockey Andrea Atzeni
He rode his first winner in the UK in 2008 and from 250 mounts that year recorded 30 winners and in the process showed a profit to level stakes on all his mounts to the tune of 32.41
The following four years saw him ride in over 400 races, but despite the moderate number of rides, he is seen as a competent pilot who gets the job done if given the right horses in the right race.
It, however, took until 2012 to register the first group one success, and although based in the UK, his win came aboard a German trained runner in Rome.
His first British group one success came in 2014 when aboard the Roger Varian trained Kingston Mill who won the Racing Post Trophy, a recognised derby trial for juveniles. They went on to finish second in the Blue Riband event (Derby) the following year.
2014 was certainly his best year in total wins recorded, 128 wins from 721 rides bringing in a win strike rate of around 18% and a profit to level stakes on all his mounts of 60.00
He was offered a contract with Qatar Racing, sharing duties with fellow compatriot Oisin Murphy. But by the end of 2015, he was offered a retained contract with a member of the Al Maktoum family and gained notable success with Postponed who won the King George and the Juddmonte, both group one races in the same year.
