“It is an important day at the office for these two on Sunday. The first piece of domestic silverware is up for grabs at Wembley and for Liverpool, it may represent their only chance of getting some success out of the season. Manchester city are still on the hunt for several titles and will this be the one to spur them on to collect more in Manuel Pellegrini’s last season with the club? Key Stats –The last eight meetings have all gone over 2.5 goals between these two.Liverpool have lost just two of their last nine against the Citizens.Liverpool came out on top in the last League Cup meeting, a 3-2 aggregate win in 2012.Man City have won just one of six League Cup matches against the Reds. Betting Tips-Big game for Liverpool and match where they really get a boost. They don’t have bad form against the Citizens either. Liverpool rolled out an emphatic 4-1 win at the Etihad in a Premier League meeting at the back end of last November. That has given them three wins in their last four games against the Citizens, so they know how to handle their opponents. Liverpool have lost just two of their last nine games played against the Citizens in all competitions. The Reds had a Europa League match at Anfield in midweek and fielded a strong side, while City fielded a full strength side away at Dynamo Kiev in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. Liverpool haven’t been in the greatest of form lately though. Prior to their midweek Europa League game, the Reds had won just three of their previous twelve matches (W3 D6 L3). There have been a lot of drawn matches therefore Liverpool this season but it suggests that they aren’t going to be a pushover at Wembley. Philippe Coutinho was on the scoresheet against City earlier in the season and could be a tempting 7/2 option, while Daniel Sturridge is a much shorter price at 7/4 and he could have the speed to get in behind the Citizen’s back line. Over 2.5 goals is trading at a price of 4/5 and the last eight between the two have gone over the mark. It’s well worth a punt on both teams to score as well for a price of 8/13 as that has happened in the last weight meetings too. Manchester City were in great shape in a 3-1 win at Dynamo Kiev in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. That was a much needed performance from them actually after back to back home defeats in the Premier League which was followed by an FA Cup exit at Chelsea after Pellegrini had fielded a second string side at Stamford Bridge. They have won just one of their last four games played then (W1 L3). They haven’t figured out Liverpool very well in recent meetings but if they can get key players like Raheem Sterling, Yaya Toure and David Silva ticking over, they should be in with a chance. Of course most of the goalscorer wagers for the game are going to go towards Sergio Aguero who is a price of even money in the anytime goalscorer market and who is a price of 4/1 in the first goalscorer market for the League Cup Final betting. Interestingly City have kept only two clean sheets in fifteen cup games this season (across all competitions) and both of those were in the FA Cup, so they have made it to the League Cup final without a clean sheet. Prediction-It’s hard to trust either defence a lot in this one. City have the better attacking options and quality to call upon when it comes to crunch time. However, Liverpool can be a resilient bunch and hang in there and they absolutely tore the Citizens apart in the league meeting earlier this season. The Reds have really battled their way to Wembley and could well finish off the job. Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals.”
