“Belgium were one of the big disappointments of the first round of group matches then. They just didn’t perform at all and had no response to Italy’s game whatsoever. That does suggest that they may struggle to break down Ireland, who were quite positive and industrious in their opener against Sweden. Belgium never looked in the game against Italy and faded away rapidly in the second half of the match, so that should give Ireland great heart. The Red Devils are a side which are packed with tremendous talent but for some reason, as at the 2014 World Cup, what they do in qualification is a long way from what they produce at the Finals. Now they are up against it and if they lose this one Italy take a point off Sweden, then the best that they could hope for is a third placed finish in the group. Belgium had been favourites to win Group E in Euro 2016 betting. So that is a W3 D1 L2 record for Belgium in the last six games, so it’s not bad, but it needs to get better and lot quickly. Maybe it was the formation and the set up, but something didn’t work against Italy in what many had pegged as being the group decider. Romelu Lukaku, who was largely ineffective in the whole match is a 5/4 anytime goal core option, with Christian Benteke and Divock Origi joining Kevin De Bruyne at the 2/1 mark to net in the game. Belgium have a huge potential for goals, but they will face a difficult, tough defence from Ireland and therefore the game going under 2.5 goals is likely going to be the best way to swing for this one at a price of 4/5 with online betting site Stan James. Ireland probably won’t be too unhappy with their point against Sweden. They actually played a more open, adventurous game than punters will have expected them too. That’s a positive thing and they could strike hot here against a Belgium side which looks low in confidence. Ireland are still underdogs for the win and have Shane Long at a big 3/1 price in the anytime goalscorer market to net. These two have met eleven times before and it is Belgium with a 5-3 head to head lead from those games. Ireland have failed to win any of their five competitive meetings against Belgium, the last time they met being in the 98 World Cup qualifiers, Belgium winning 2-1. Both teams to score in this fixture is a price of 5/6. Prediction-Ireland can take the win that they need in this one and take a huge step towards the next round. There was nothing there to fear for them about Belgium and if Ireland just put in a decent hard working shift and target some chances from set plays, they should be alright in this one.Look for a low scoring game, but for Ireland to take the win against a Belgium side lacking confidence at the moment.”
