Porto hosts Liverpool in the first match of 1/8 of UEFA Champions League.
Porto managed to qualify for the last 16 in 2nd place, above RB Leipzig, but four points behind group’s winner Besiktas. They are 2nd in the Primeira Liga, just a point behind leaders Benfica coming from the 4 nil win to Chaves, away from home. Today they will face a tough challenge, as so far they have not played against a very good side like Liverpool.
Liverpool did not have the best start in the Champions League as they failed to beat Sevilla and Spartak Moscow in their opening two group games, but eventually picked up in the end, scoring 10 past Maribor in their two matches, drawing 3-3 away to Sevilla, and the last match they absolutely battered Spartak Moscow 7-0. They won against Southampton at weekend, to make it seven wins from their last ten competitive matches, scoring 24 goals, including 4 in the win over Manchester City.
HEAD TO HEAD
Liverpool have won two and drawn two of their four previous meetings with Porto. In Champions they have played twice in 2007, with the Reds wining 4:1 at home and 0:0 in the return match.
Felipe is suspended for this clash, whilst centre back Ivan Marcano, midfielders Danilo and Andre, and striker Vincent Aboubakar are all injured.
Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan are both doubts for Liverpool, but Nathaniel Clyne is the only confirmed absentee.
