Arsenal v Leicester City – Match Preview
The match of the weekend in the English Premier League sees surprise leaders Leicester City travelling to face third placed Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday. With five points currently between the sides, a win for either will see them take a massive step towards the title and Sunday’s match is one not to be missed.
Arsenal go into Sunday’s match in third place in the table behind both Leicester and their North London rivals Spurs. Having not won the Premier title in 12 years, this season offers Arsene Wenger and his team their best chance yet of regaining the title. With regular title challengers Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea in disarray there can be no excuses if Arsenal fail to lift the Premiership trophy in May. Arsenal have struggled for consistency in recent weeks winning only once in their last five and having not won at home in the league since January 2nd. Defeat to Leicester would see Arsenal fall eight points behind them with only 12 matches remaining but they do however have an excellent record over City. Unbeaten in 18 league matches against Leicester since 1973, Arsenal will be keen to extend this record and close the gap at the top and put themselves very much back in the title mix.
Leicester go into the match on the back of three straight league victories, including last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad. Having only just survived relegation last season, Leicester have enjoyed an outstanding season under manager Claudio Ranieri and it is the first time in the history of the Premier League that that not one of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester United lead the table after 25 matches. Three points on Sunday would see Leicester take a massive step in their unlikely quest for the title and they go into the match with the best away record in the Premier League, having picked up an outstanding 28 points on the road already this season. In James Vardy and Riyad Mahrez they have two of the main candidates for player of the season with the duo having scored 32 goals so far. Mahrez was at his best last weekend against Manchester City and Leicester will again look to the Algerian midfield to dictate their counter-attacking style of play. Vardy gives Leicester a fantastic outlet at front with his consistent running and this again will be key on Sunday.
Arsenal are the 1.80 (4/5) favourites for Sunday’s match with Leicester available to back at a tempting 5 (4/1) and the Draw at 4 (3/1). With both sides having scored 86 goals between them this season a high scoring match looks to be on the cards. Therefore, the football betting tip for the Arsenal v Leicester City match on Sunday is over 3.5 goals in the match at 3 (2/1).
