Chelsea v Manchester United

A clash between two teams near the top of the pool is always exciting and the Premier League Manchester United vs. Chelsea match on Sunday, February 5 will be that kind of encounter. Manchester United is now at the top of the pool (along with the Citizens) with the January 31 win over Stoke. Though Chelsea drew its January 31 match it remains in the fourth spot. The Manchester United vs Chelsea football game will be played at the Chelsea home ground at Stamford Bridge with the kick off at 17:00CET.

Chelsea have had an indifferent run of form lately, and are on the back of two successive draw in the league, including the disappointing 1-1 against Swansea, which saw Ashley Cole dismissed for a hard tackle and hence will be unavailable for selection. John Terry is expected to shrug of his ongoing knee problem and take his place in the heart of Chelsea’s defense. Frank Lampard is nursing an injured calf and looks like he would have to be content with a place on the bench. Ramires remains a long term absentee. Ryan Bertrand is in line for his first league start along with Michael Essien, who has been impressive since his return from injury.

On the other hand, Manchester United moved swiftly to put their FA Cup debacle behind them, as they beat Stoke City 2-0 at home, to draw level at the top with neighbors Manchester City, thus extending their winning run to three games in the league and reigniting their hopes of retaining the Premier League crown. David DeGea is recovering from a bout of flu and Anders Lindegaard has picked up a ligament damage which means Ben Amos is likely to continue in goal. Rooney, Nani and Welbeck were rested for the midweek clash against Stoke and are expected to be on the bus to South London. Ashley Young could join them after making steady recovery from his ankle injury that has kept him out of action since December.

Chelsea will be the more desperate team on Sunday, and they have greater things at stake. Making the Champions League next season is something that the Blues have to accomplish, and losing this match will allow Arsenal to cut the gap between the clubs to two points. With the pressure that probably Amos will be under in this match, United could have a real problem at the goalkeeper position. If United lose this match, they will travel to host Liverpool next Saturday in another grueling battle that could be a must win for their title hopes.

In my opinion, Chelsea will give an inspired performance against Manchester United at home this weekend (home win @ around 2.6) and earn a huge result for the club (over 2,5 goals @ around 2.05).
